Sasangir National Park, India

If you want to take a wildlife holiday in the Western state of Gujarat in India, you will find Sasangir National Park. It is the only home of the Asiatic Lion - a threatened species of which there are only around 300 left in the wild.

The vegetation of Sasangir is adapted to the dry climate, with thorn forests spread over the rugged terrain. The forest is also home to the rare Asiatic wild ass and species such as the leopard, wild boar, gazelle, nilgai, spotted deer and different species of monkeys. The birds seen in the park include peacocks and parrots. There is also a crocodile-rearing and research centre nearby.

The Sasangir National Park also includes the Nalsarovar Lake and sanctuary where many different species of birds can be seen.

Winter is the best time to holiday in Sasangir, as the climate is better than the dry heat of the Indian summer. Seeing the last regal Asiatic Lions in their natural environment in the wild is sure to be an unforgettable Incredible India Wildlife experience.
