Red Fort: This impressive fort made of red sandstone was built by Shah Jehan, who ruled from 1628 to 1658. This Mughal stronghold contained the palaces of the Mughal court and the halls of public and private audience. Other attractions of Red Fort include a weaponry museum and the sound and light show, which relates the story of the Mughal Emperors and their reign. Qutab Minar: Built by Qutub-ud-din Aibak, the founder of the Delhi Sultanate, this pillar which reaches to a height of 72.5 m, was finished by Sultan Iltutmish, the son-in-law of Qutub-ud-din Aibak. Made of red sandstone, this pillar of victory was constructed over the remnants of Prithviraj Chauhan the last Hindu King of Delhi's fort known as Kila Rai Pithora.
India Gate: Located at one end of Rajpath, the central avenue of Delhi, India Gate was built to commemorate the martyrs of World War I. Conceived by Sir Edwin Lutyens, who designed New Delhi as the imperial capital of British India, the arch bears the names of the martyred soldiers. Beneath the arch burns the Amar Jawan Jyoti or eternal flame, which commemorates the sacrifice of the Unknown soldier. The green lawns, fountains and boating pools make the central vista around India Gate a popular picnic spot.
 Humayun's Tomb:Built by Hamida Begum, the wife of Humayun, this beautiful building houses the tomb of Humayun, the Mughal Emperor. Surrounded by gardens and set on a wide platform, Humayun's tomb is said to have inspired the design of the Taj Mahal.
Jantar Mantar:One of 5 astronomical observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh, the astronomer King of Jaipur, the Jantar Mantar is a popular tourist attraction. Consisting of masonry structures in geometric shapes, these instruments can measure the apparent movement of the sun and stars and the motion of the planets. The red and white structures are a fascinating sight.
